South Park is a peaceful and quiet town until the Terrence and Phillip movie “Asses Of Fire” hits the theaters. Once that happens, all friggin’ hell breaks loose. After all the kids see the movie, they begin using all the foul and naughty language used in the movie. When the parents discover this, they demand war against Canada. The parents plan to execute Terrence and Phillip. After Kenny gets sent to hell (all thanks to Cartman), he overhears Satan and Saddam Hussien plan to rise to Earth to rule for 2,000,000 years of torture once Terrence and Phillip’s blood touches US soil. Will Cartman’s filthy fucking mouth and V-Chip save the day?

Wordless (save for the song “Walking in the Air”) animated adventure about a young English boy who makes a snowman one Christmas Eve, only for it to come to life that night and take him on a magical adventure to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus.

Robot Chicken’s finest half hour is more savvy than Spaceballs, more inside than Family Guy: Blue Harvest, and funnier, even, than The Star Wars Holiday Special. This Very Special Episode of Comedy Central’s stop-motion animated series parodies and goofs on all things Star Wars, from a disgruntled Empire janitor to an ad for Admiral Ackbar Cereal (”Your tongues can’t repel flavor of that magnitude”). Twenty three minutes goes by like the jump to hyperspace with such priceless bits as the collect phone call to Emperor Palpatine from Darth Vadar to inform him of the Death Star’s destruction, awkward morning-after pillow talk between Luke and Leia (”That was so wrong”), and George Bush’s newfound Jedi powers. Co-creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich and company immerse viewers in the Robot Chicken universe with generous bonus features, including storyboarded deleted scenes (with self-deprecating commentary), behind the scenes footage of animation meetings, and alternate audio takes. Good sport George Lucas, who gave his blessing to this episode, boldly goes where William Shatner went before by voicing himself in a Star Wars convention sketch that concludes with a Lucas-worshiping geek telling his son that meeting his idol was the best day of his life. What about his son’s birth? “Not even close,” dad replies. But you don’t have to have that kind of devotion to Star Wars to be amused by this weather forecast for Cloud City: “Cloudy, followed by clouds.”

A digital 3D presentation that wows viewers with striking 3D effects, Fly Me to the Moon is a retelling of the 1969 Apollo 11 landing on the moon from the perspective of three young flies that allegedly hitched a ride on the historic flight. Nat, IQ, and Scooter live by the credo “If it’s not an adventure, it’s not worth doing,” so when the three flies get a chance to sneak aboard the space shuttle for a ride to the moon, all systems are definitely go. While Grandpa McFly and Nat’s young maggot siblings applaud the boys’ adventuresome spirits, their mothers stereotypically swoon and fret over their safety. The flies encounter several unanticipated twists including the trip’s week-long duration, a short in the ship’s circuitry, a Russian fly plot to sabotage their mission, and their mid-flight imprisonment in a test tube. Nonetheless, the flies manage to enjoy the experience of weightlessness with an in-space ballet interpretation of “Blue Danube” as well as an orange juice feeding frenzy. Fly Me to the Moon will likely spark new interest in space exploration and the United States’ walk on the moon, especially in today’s children, and the filmmakers made a concerted effort to present fairly accurate historical details consistent with NASA’s notes on the historic flight. There’s even an afterword from real astronaut Buzz Aldrin in which he stresses the impossibility of the existence of flies or other contaminants aboard the historic space shuttle. Fly Me to the Moon is fun entertainment for the whole family as well as an eye-catching display of digital 3D technology. (Ages 4 and older)
