Her goldfish dead, her lover exposed as a rat, Shawn Holloway leaves her bank post and goes to the roof intent on suicide. Before she can leap, she’s taken hostage by Charlie Anders, a fleeing bank robber. He and his partners have stolen a million in cash and plan to escape to Venezuela. Shawn agrees to cooperate if Charlie promises to kill her once he’s in the clear. Parts of the plan go awry, so Charlie has time to try to pierce her bleak manner and self pity, and she has time for reflection. As night falls, their interlude ends: they’re each alone, Charlie facing prison as the police close in, and Shawn staring down at a river from atop a high bridge.

In 2046, in a research facility in Mars, some subjects are released and the place is kept in quarantine. A team of Marines, leaded by Sarge (The Rock), is assigned to rescue the personnel and retrieve the research data, with the support of Dr. Samantha Grimm (Rosamund Pike), the twin sister of the Marine John “Reaper” Grimm (Karl Urban). While in the mission, Samantha finds a dark hidden secret about the monsters and the researches.

At a local bordello, he tries to employ a lactating hooker to watch the child, but things quickly escalate, and this makeshift family is soon on the run. Heavy metal music calms the baby. Why? A laboratory, a gun factory, and a presidential campaign all figure in Smith’s search for the child’s ultimate safety.
